Gene: [00.0/TSP1] testis-specific protein, autosomal 1;

COM

The marker was registered in MIM on the basis of the report of M.Fellous (personal communication with V.A.McKusick; June 1986, Paris) that probe p49f recognized one hybridization site in each of chrs 3 and Yq; these sites probably correspond to the gene specifically expressed during spermatogenesis. The probe recognized also the 4-kb mRNA, which is specific for testicular tissues of various species, including human. Although the HGM catalogue does not contain data on this marker, it was reproduced in MIM-90 with a new comment: according to second personal communication with M.Fellous (July 1989, Paris), this gene was mapped to chrs 3p and 10q; chr Y was not mentioned already."

FAG

A gene encoding a homologous protein (TPX1) with testicle-specific expression has been mapped to chr 6 (GEM:06^/TSP2)."
