Gene: [11q13/CAPN1] calpain, large polypeptide L1 (catalytic); calcium-activated neutral proteinase Mu;

COM

Calpain inhibitor (calpastatin) was mapped to Chr 5q (GEM:05q/CAST).

FUN

[1] Calpain belongs to the group of cysteine proteinases. It is a heterodimer consisting of the large (L) and small (S) subunits (GEM:19q131/CAPN4). L peptides are encoded by three genes CAPN1, GEM:01^/CAPN2, and GEM:15q15/CAPN3.
[2] The preferential cleavage: Tyr-|-Xaa, Met-|-Xaa or Arg-|-Xaa with Leu or Val as the p2 residue."

REL

GEM:00.0/CAPN5; GEM:00.0/CAPN6.
