Gene: [13p12/D13FB2S1] satellite DNA, beta, NOR1-flanking subset 1; [D13F39S1 ]

SUM

[1] This type of Sau3A-repeats was discovered in the laboratory of H.F.Willard (Dept Med Genet, Univ Toronto, Canada) as a beta-satellite type. Canonical monomer was shown to contain 68 bp. Individual loci of these DNA repeats consist of multimers arranged in tandems. B1 family (clone pB3) has only one location site, within the 9qh region (the heterochromatic region of a secondary constriction in the long arm of Chr 9; D9Z5). B2 family (clone pB4 [GDB :181335]) was shown to be located on all chromosomes containing nucleolar organizers (Chr 13, 14, 15, 21, and 22). B2 sequences flank rRNA genes at both sides. The consensus nucleotide sequence of Sau3A monomer is as follows:
[2]-<1=gatcagtgca gagatatgtc acaa(a/t)gcccc (c/-)tgtaggcag agcctagaca= =agagttacat ccacctgggt=70/69?>.
[3] In E.D.Sverdlov's laboratory (Inst Bioorganic Chemistry, Moscow, Russia), B2 family was shown to be species-specific due to the fact that the family was revealed (by the Kunkel's method of differential hybridization) in the human genome but not in the chimpanzee genome."
